San Diego Zoo
I was sitting on the tour bus at the San Diego Zoo when the bus stopped out of nowhere. My mom and dad planned to go to San Diego, and it took a day or two to get there.
When we got there, we tried to check into our room, but the lady at reception said, “Sorry, you missed your check in time so we gave your room away.” My mom had to get another room. The next day came, and we were all excited. When my mom got done getting ready, we got in the car. The zoo was 30 minutes away from our hotel, so we left around 10:00 a.m. Once we got there, my sister and brothers and I got so excited, but we had to wait in a line to get in.
We finally got in, and my mom said, “Hey, let's go look at the gorillas!” We all agreed. It took us a while to find the gorillas. Once we found them, my mom and dad wanted to take the tour bus.
“Let’s go on the tour bus to see what animals we find” We got in line for the tour bus. It took a while to get on. We finally got on, there was a college football team there too. One player wanted a high-five from my sister and brothers and I, but my brothers and sister didn’t give him one. but I did, and his teammates started to laugh at him.
He said, “One out of four is not bad!” The bus started to move, so I sat down next to my brother.
On the way, we saw a few animals the bottom half of one animal was like a zebra and the other half looked like a horse. When I wasn't expecting anything, the bus just stopped. There was another bus in front of us that had stopped, so we had to wait for the other bus to go. On the other side, there were people, so we couldn’t go around. We had to wait for a person to come and fix the bus. It took 30 minutes to fix it. All of the people on the bus were hot, so when we got back to the drop off spot, there were a lot of people in line for the tour bus. When my family and I got off the tour bus, we went on a ride that took us high in the air, and we were able to see the whole zoo from there. It was pretty cool.
When we got off of the tour bus, we walked around the zoo. The zoo was pretty big, I saw a lot of animals that I have never seen before. One animal that I saw was a hippo. I had never seen one in person.
“Wow! Look at that hippo,” I said. There were flamingos as well, it was cool how they would sleep. They would only stand on one leg. My brothers and sister and I were confused on how they would sleep my brother said “why do they sleep like that?” After being stuck on the bus, we didn’t get to see the whole zoo, but everything else was good.
My favorite thing about the zoo was the thing that takes you high up in the air.
It was a fun experience, except for being stuck on the bus for a while. We didn’t leave the zoo until it turned dark, so we still got to see mostly all of the animals. We stayed in San Diego for a few days and went to different places, it was cool. I learned that a tour bus can break down and it can take a while to start going again.
Personal Narrative Reflection
Please answer all questions in complete, grammatically correct sentences.
1. Explain the process you went through to write this paper. Please be specific.
I had to come up with ideas and pick the one that seemed interesting.
2. What qualifies this paper as a narrative? What are the requirements for this genre and how did you meet them?
This is a narrative because I talked about what happened to me when I went to the zoo. I had to remember the things we did when we got to the zoo.
3. What is one part of your story that you think turned out well? What do you like about that part?
The part that turned out good was when we got on the thing that took us up in the air. I liked it because I was able to see the whole zoo from up there.
